PPM Version:
JOHNNY DEPP is putting together another compilation of artists performing old seafaring songs, which will be a sequel to "Rogue's Gallery", the one he did in 2006. This one will include a collaboration between Johnny and PATTI SMITH . . . and another one between MICHAEL STIPE and COURTNEY LOVE.
Full Story:
While filming the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, JOHNNY DEPP and director GORE VERBINSKI came up with the idea to have a bunch of artists record versions of old songs sung by sailors, pirates and other seafarers.
--The result was a very bizarre compilation called "Rogue's Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs, and Chanteys", which included artists like Lou Reed, Sting, Bono, Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright and Jarvis Cocker. It came out in 2006.
--And now, there's a second volume on the way.
--This one is called "Son of Rogue's Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys" . . . and it includes: Keith Richards, Tom Waits, Sean Lennon, Broken Social Scene, Iggy Pop, Macy Gray, Frank Zappa and Todd Rundgren.
--There's also a FASCINATING duet featuring R.E.M.'s MICHAEL STIPE and COURTNEY LOVE. (???)
--Johnny will also appear on this one. He has a collaboration with PATTI SMITH . . . and he and Verbinski are also featured on a track with SHANE MACGOWAN from THE POGUES. It's called "Leaving of Liverpool".
(--You can listen to that one at RollingStone.com . . . and the "Hollywood Reporter" has the complete track list. The album comes out on February 19th.)
