PPM Version:
IGGY POP believes it's important for "real bands" . . . like THE STOOGES . . . to continue to record new music, and not wimp out by just playing their old stuff on tour. He also takes a shot at BILLY CORGAN, saying, quote, "This is not the [effing] Smashing Pumpkins, [where] we've got the bald guy and whoever. No."
Full Story:
THE STOOGES are releasing a new album called "Ready to Die" on April 30th . . . and IGGY POP says it's important for "real bands" to continue to record new music, and not wimp out by just playing their old stuff on tour.
--He explains, quote, "My motivation in making any record with the group at this point is no longer personal. It's just a pig-headed [effing] thing I have, that a real [effing] group, when they're an older group, they also make [effing] records.
--"They don't just go and twiddle around on stage to make a bunch of [effing] money. And then go, 'Oh! [Recording new music] wouldn't be as good!"
--And then he takes a shot at BILLY CORGAN. He says, quote, "This is not the [effing] Smashing Pumpkins, [where] we've got the bald guy and whoever. No . . . the Stooges are a real group."
(--You can find video of Iggy's comments on Vimeo.com. WARNING: It's UNCENSORED. For the record, the Pumpkins ARE recording new music, although he's right . . . the band is currently the bald guy and whoever.)
